Thonotosassa Public Library Replacement Project

The existing 8,000-square-foot Thonotosassa library facility is functionally obsolete and cannot accommodate the full array of library services requested by customers, including meeting room space, technology programs, and instruction. The building is structurally constrained and continues to require significant system upgrades and repairs. There has been significant growth in Thonotosassa since the library was built in 1989. The Library’s Capital Facilities Master Plan calls for additional library space in the area due to population increase and projected growth.

The proposed solution is to create a cooperative between Parks & Recreation and Library Services to develop a new destination site for the Thonotosassa community.

Project Highlights

The proposed new library is planned to be over 17,000 square feet and co-located with Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation to bring a full range of recreational and educational opportunities to residents. This library’s architecture and design will be Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired, complementing the park setting.

The library will feature:

  • Multiple meeting rooms of varying sizes
  • Dedicated children’s library featuring an Early Learning Hive for tactile play
  • A recording studio, technology lending, and other technology improvements
  • Inglenook and hearth for cozy reading
  • Quiet study room with conservation area views
  • Robust collections for all ages
